This annual event is designed to enhance emergency communication capabilities and demonstrate the resilience of amateur radio under challenging conditions.
Summer Field Day, sponsored by the ARRL (The National Association for Amateur Radio®), invites amateur radio operators across North America to test their skills in setting up portable radio communication stations in environments that simulate emergency scenarios. This year, the Kentucky Colonels will operate from the Anna Community Center located at 4275 Anna Sandhill Rd, Bowling Green, KY 42101 and Richardsville Fire Station #4 located at 9408 KY-185 Bowling Green, KY 42101, beginning at 12:00 PM on Saturday, June 28, and concluding at 12:00 PM on Sunday, June 29. The event is open to the public, and visitors are encouraged to drop by and learn about amateur radio operations.
Participants will use various modes of communication, including voice, digital, and Morse code, to make contact with other operators across the country. You do not need to be a licensed radio operator to get on the air. Club members will also highlight the essential role amateur radio plays in emergency preparedness and disaster response.
